Is it common for guys to say that they want to marry you?

someday and he asks you when both you and him are fairly young? when my ex brokeup with me one of the first things he made known was the fact that i was the first girl he ever wanted to spend the rest of his life with. personally i found his gesture rather insincere but for you guys, is this common for men to say?
