In Anne of Green Gables, why did Marilla and Matthew adopt Anne as siblings?
Marilla and Matthew were siblings, so why did they adopt Anne together? Shouldn't it be a husband and wife who adopt a child together? That's why when I started reading it, I didn't know Matthew and Marilla were siblings, I thought they were married.
